Physical Education

Mission statement

We aim to provide a varied, engaging and challenging curriculum where pupils are actively participating in a wide range of activities. Pupils will seek to develop social, technical and tactical skills, whilst ensuring that they are actively pursuing a healthy and active lifestyle. Pupils will also have many opportunities to take these skills further through representing the school in fixtures and attending a plethora of extra-curricular activities.

Key Stage 3

Pupils will be engaged in a wide range of activities that will enhance their personal health and fitness, improve their ability to work with others, develop their observational, analytical and evaluative skills and also develop sport specific skills to enable tem to continue to GCSE standard if they wish. Each pupil will receive specific PE and Games lessons and will cover many varying sports.

Key Stage 4

Pupils will take a greater role in deciding which Core PE activities they follow in years 10 and 11. Pupils have the option start GCSE PE in year 10, where they will undertake roles of leadership and officiating, alongside the performance roles in sport. The pupils are expected to take greater responsibility in ensuring that they continue to pursue a healthy and active lifestyle into adult life.

Key Stage 5

Pupils take a complete role in opting for specific sports that are offered each term to guarantee each student a weekly session of exercise to develop a healthy and active lifestyle. Pupils may wish to take Physical Education A/S, which could lead to many varying University courses, where the roles of performer, leader and official are examined at a deeper level.
