Students will attend Mathematics, English and Science lessons in sets of approximately 20. Only Mathematics is set based on ability with students from Bridge, Castle and Gordon being placed into ability sets 1-4. All other subjects are of mixed, parallel ability. Students in Pitt, River and Theftord have the same setting provision for all subjects, with ability sets in Mathematics.

The top set in Mathematics in each half year also complete a GCSE in Further Mathematics.

Outside certificated GCSEs students in Year 10 continue to attend compulsory Games lessons (2 hours) at the same time and then placed into 6 sets based on sporting ability. They also attend PE lessons (2 hours) in their science sets.
