Accelerated Curriculum
Q. I am currently in Year 11 doing my GCSEs and am looking to start my AS levels in Year 12. Can I join your sixth form?
A. You are welcome to apply. We require each potential student to have obtained at least 5 A*-C grades at GCSE including English and Mathematics, obtained in one sitting. In addition, a B grade in the subject you wish to study, or a related discipline, is expected.
Q. I did my GCSEs in Year 10 and am currently doing AS levels in Year 11. I would like to join your school to continue these subjects to A2 level in Year 12. Is that possible?
A. Yes, this is possible if the subjects that you are currently doing fit into our option blocks. A pre-agreed A/S level result will be required for you to continue the subject to A2 level. We would also have to check if you can obtain a full A level having done modules with different examination boards.
Q. I did my GCSEs in Year 10 and am currently doing AS levels in Year 11. I would like to join your school to start my AS levels again in Year 12 doing the same subjects. Is that possible?
A. Yes, this is possible. If your chosen subjects fit our option blocks and you have gained the necessary entry requirements for joining the sixth form then this is not a problem. You will also have to convince us that you have the required desire and commitment to ensure success this year, compared to last year, at interview.
Q. I did my GCSEs in Year 10 and am currently doing AS levels in Year 11. I would like to join your school to continue these subjects to A2 level in Year 12. What would I do in Year 13 at your school?
A. You would be able to apply for admission into Year 12 in order to complete your A2 levels, but the provision we could offer in the subsequent year is not yet certain. Possibilities include: retaking some A levels to ensure that you achieve an appropriate grade; starting a degree level course via a distance learning arrangement; pursuing an Extended Project. The exact nature of the provision will not be finalised until we know how many students are in this situation.
Q. I did my GCSEs in Year 10 and am currently doing AS levels in Year 11. I would like to join your school to start my AS levels again in Year 12, but I want to do different subjects, including some I haven't studied for a year. Is that possible?
A. Yes, it is possible. We would need to be certain that your level of knowledge and understanding of subjects you have not studied for a while is adequate, and you will have need to have achieved the required B grade at GCSE in the subject. We would also have to check if you can obtain a full A level having done modules with different examination boards.
Q. I did my GCSEs in Year 10 and am currently doing 2 AS levels and 2 more GCSEs in Year 11. I would like to join your school in Year 12 and continue my 2 AS levels on to A2 level and begin 2 more AS levels. Is that possible?
A. Yes it is, providing that your subjects fit our option blocks. You will need a satisfactory grade to continue the A/S level subjects into A2 level and for the subjects that you are starting at A/S level the normal requirements to enter the sixth form, a B grade at GCSE in your first sitting of the subject, will apply.
Q. I did my GCSEs in Year 10 and am currently doing AS levels in Year 11. I would like to join your school to continue these subjects to A2 level in Year 12, but I know your school starts A2 teaching at the end of the year. I'm worried about joining a class in September in which I’m a year younger and everyone else has done 6 weeks of A2 work. What can I do?
A. You would be encouraged to enrol in our school in June after the AS module examinations so that you start A2 work at the same time as others in the class.
Q. I am currently in Year 10 and will complete my GCSEs at the end of the year. I am looking to start AS levels next year when I am in Year 11. Can I do this at your school?
A. That would not be possible. We are not in a position to admit pupils to our Sixth Form who are below 16 years of age.
