English

English: Mission statement

We aim to develop in pupils a sensitive awareness of themselves and others, through their own creative use of language, through reading and listening to the language used by other people and to enable them to communicate effectively in speech and in writing.

Key Stage 3:

The curriculum is designed to introduce pupils to the widest possible range of topics, ideas and texts, encouraging independence and creativity whilst embedding the conventions of accurate writing and speech.

Key Stage 4

GCSE English and English Literature further develop pupils’ independence in understanding, analysing and evaluating literary and non-literary texts, whilst refining their ability to adapt both written and spoken English to a wide range of situations and purposes.

Key Stage 5

The Literature A-level encourages students to engage creatively with a substantial body of texts and ways of responding to them, and to develop and apply their knowledge of literary analysis and evaluation.
