Year 9 - The GCSE Options Procedure
As pupils near the end of Key Stage 3 (Lower School) and move into Key Stage 4 (Middle School) some important changes in the curriculum will be taking place. In order to study each subject to the required depth it becomes necessary to reduce the number of courses followed at GCSE level.
The Options Procedure
The following timetable outlines the options procedure:
January 2013
A copy of the Middle School booklet is given to all pupils. This includes information about all courses offered in Key Stage 4 together with details of the option procedure itself. The Head of Middle School and a number of Heads of Department will address Year 9 boys to outline details of the courses offered in Year 10.
GCSE Information Evening - 15th January 2013
Boys and parents are able to attend this evening. An update on the Key Stage 4 curriculum and choices, which affect Year 9 pupils, is given. Mr Heather, Head of Middle School, will talk briefly about the Middle School and the different approach to studying for GCSE. Senior Staff and Heads of Department of option subjects are available to answer specific queries and provide sample GCSE materials for both boys and parents to examine.
Consultation Evening - 23rd January 2013
At the consultation evening staff are available to discuss progress in individual subjects and to provide advice and recommendations.
Option Choice Returns - 25th February 2013
Boys will return forms to their Form Tutors giving details of their choices by this date.
