Prefects
School Officers 2012/13
School Captain Lawrence Chittil
Deputy School Captains Kieran Early and Beth Cowden
The Officers are supported by six Senior Prefects, each of whom is responsible for a team of prefects in addition to carry out specific delegated responsibilities.
Prefects are generally selected from members of Year 12 who are considered mature and responsible enough to exert influence over other pupils and set an example that others can rely on as a role model. All prefects must support the ethos of the school and this is reflected in the manner in which they are expected to carry out their duties. The school relies on the efficient operation of the prefect body to ensure that appropriate standards are observed during its day to day operation.
With more than 20 'duties' to be staffed every day as well as many others carried out weekly and on an occasional basis, the role of prefect can be quite demanding.
In addition to their regular duties many prefects carry considerable responsibility for the successful functioning of extracurricular activities, and they all contribute to the public image of the school while they carry out the essential, but sometimes background tasks, involved in mounting the major school functions of the year. Undoubtedly the most important occasions are the two annual Open Evenings when they have to assume a very high profile indeed and their loyalty and enthusiasm is relied upon.
Specialist Prefects
In addition to Prefects who undertake normal duties, a number of Specialist Prefects are chosen by Heads of Department to support the work of that subject. Currently, Specialist Prefects work in the Library, ICT, Mathematics, History, Geography, Music, Languages and Technology departments.
